He said he was ready -- and now it seems that General Hospital was, too. Dominic Zamprogna reprises the role of Dante Falconeri.

A little more than two months after saying that The Powers That Be knew he was ready to return, it looks like General Hospital was also ready to take Dominic Zamprogna up on his offer. The Emmy-nominated actor has reprised the role of Sonny's eldest son, Dante.

Zamprogna made his unexpected return on Monday, August 3 in the role he originated in 2009. It's unclear if Zamprogna's return is short-term -- he's made two such appearances since he exited the show -- or a full-time one.

In May, Zamprogna shared that "Frank [Valentini, GH executive producer] knows I am ready to come home. And I'd be totally open to a contract. There's so much potential with the character and the story right now. With everything they've done since Dante's been gone, there are so many options, and they'd all be fun to play."

Zamprogna originally played the long-lost son of mobster Sonny Corinthos and Olivia Falconeri Quartermaine (Lisa LoCicero) from 2009 to 2018. In its recent flashback episodes, GH re-aired the 2010 episode where Sonny actually shot Dante. Of course, he was unaware that Dante was his son at the time.

Dante was sent off on an undercover WSB mission in the summer of 2018. He made a couple of quick returns to Port Charles before shocking his wife, Lulu (Emme Rylan), with a request for a divorce. He then left town permanently to treat his issues with PTSD. Lulu was heartbroken after Dante's departure, but she eventually moved on with Dustin (Mark Lawson). That might just be one of the "everything they've done" things that Zamprogna referred to.

General Hospital resumed production on July 22. New episodes of the long-running series began airing on Monday, August 3.

This article was updated to include Zamprogna's first airdate.
