Did Hopper die in Stranger Things?

No, Jim Hopper does not die in Stranger Things. Jim Hopper’s apparent death, which had made all Stranger Things fans emotional, occurs during the final battle at the Hawkins Lab beneath Starcourt Mall. Season 3’s finale is set around the effort of the party to close a massive gate to the Upside Down, which has been reopened by a group of Russian operatives using a powerful machine known as “The Key.” This massive gate allowed the dangerous Mind Flayer to wreak havoc on the city of Hawkins, endangering everyone.

In the final moments of the battle, Joyce Byers and Hopper made their way to the control room to shut down the machine. As Hopper fights off Russian soldiers, Joyce sets the machine to self-destruct. As the machine gears up to blow, Hopper finds himself trapped near the device with no clear escape route. Realizing the gravity of the situation, he silently communicates with Joyce, requesting her to proceed and turn the keys for the machine to vaporize everything including itself. In doing so the machine creates a massive explosion that destroys the machine, closes the gate, and seemingly vaporizes Hopper.
