Gossip Girl is set in Manhattan's Upper East Side where a mysterious blogger documents the secrets and scandals of the area's affluent residents. That “Gossip” includes the return of the high school's popular Serena Vander Woodson who abruptly and mysteriously left for a stint in boarding school the year prior but has returned to help care for her younger brother Eric amidst a bout of depression.
Serena's return leads to complicated feelings for her old best friend Blair Waldorf who has become the most popular girl at school in her absence. The friendship between Blair and Serena is further shattered when Blair uncovers a secret from before Serena's original departure. She'd had an affair and taken the virginity of Blair's longtime boyfriend Nate.
