The South Korean survival thriller horror Squid Game is a television series created, written, and directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk for Netflix. The show centers on a secret competition in which 456 participants, all of whom are financially unstable, risk their lives to compete in a series of deadly kid's games in an attempt to earn a prize of ₩45.6 billion.
On September 17, 2021, the premiere of Squid Game's first season was broadcast globally, garnering both international and critical praise. It attracted over 142 million member households and 1.65 billion viewing hours in its first four weeks, making it the most-watched series on Netflix and the most-watched program in 94 countries.
The second season's production started in July 2023, and it is expected to premiere on December 26, 2024. The third and final season will follow in 2025.
