Leonard Hofstadter, portrayed by Johnny Galecki, is a warm and kind person. He was an experimental physicist who worked at Caltech along with his friends. Being a people pleaser, he always got caught between his friendship with Sheldon and his love for Penny. He often struggles to say his feelings out loud because of his insecurities. He was in a relationship with Penny who he married later in the show. For his portrayal of Leonard, Galecki received several nominations for awards like Primetime Emmy, People’s Choice Award, and Screen Actors Guild Awards.


Sheldon Cooper, portrayed by Jim Parsons, is one of the most iconic characters in the history of television, so much so that he has his own spinoff show "Young Sheldon". He is known for his intelligence and sarcastic remarks. Due to his lack of social skills and obsession with schedules, he used to avoid others and also came off as self-centered and rude. Despite all of that, he actually cared and loved his friends though he might not be able to express it well. Penny, portrayed by Kaley Cuoco, is a waitress and aspiring actress. She was an extrovert who made her way into the group of four socially awkward geeks. She got married to Leonard in the show. Despite the differences, her relationship with Leonard was wholesome. Initially, he had social anxiety and selective mutism as he couldn’t talk to women unless he was drunk. But he overcomes that and later forms good relationships with the women of the group. He is known for his close friendship with Howard; their dynamic was so fun that they often behaved like a married couple.


Bernadette Rostenkowski-Wolowitz, portrayed by Melissa Rauch, is a microbiologist and is married to Howard. She is a kind, intelligent, and ambitious woman who also has a dominating side to her. She always keeps Howard in check with her strong personality. In 2013, for her role as Bernadette, Rauch was nominated for a Critics Choice Television Award.


Amy Farrah Fowler, portrayed by Mayim Bialik, is a neurobiologist. She is kind and was initially a socially awkward person with no friends. She was the love interest of Sheldon, who eventually got married to him. Gradually she made friendships and added personality to Sheldon’s character with love and compassion. Because of Sheldon’s reserved behavior, their relationship faced several ups and downs. For her role as Amy, Bialik was nominated for Primetime Emmy Awards four times and won two Critics' Choice Television Awards.
