The 2nd and final season of Andor is set to premiere on April 22, 2025, only on Disney+. The trailer was dropped on March 24, 2025. This upcoming season will consist of 12 episodes, divided into 4 different chapters, and each chapter will have 3 episodes. Each episode will be released weekly on Disney+. This season focuses on the events that happen right before Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. During the Star Wars Celebration fan convention in London, Tony Gilori shared the process of making Andor. He said, “If you know your ending, it really helps. We know exactly where we’re going. You know what you have to deliver emotionally and what the story has to do. It’s a decision borne of survival, but it’s good for us creatively.”

Season 2 digs deeper into Cassian's change from a loner into a dedicated rebel leader. The storyline will span 4 years, with each 3-episode arc representing a year in Cassian's life, culminating in events that lead directly into Rogue One. This season helps show the struggles and sacrifices that lead to the start of the rebellion. In an interview with Variety, Tony talked about how he wanted to focus on other aspects in the show.

He said, “I wanted to do it about real people. They've made all this IP about the royal family, in essence. It’s been great. But there’s a billion, billion, billion other beings in the galaxy. There are plumbers and cosmeticians. Journalists! What are their lives like? The revolution is affecting them just as much as anybody else. Why not use the ‘Star Wars’ canon as a host organism for absolutely realistic, passionate, dramatic storytelling?”

Andor tells a story about the early days of the Rebel Alliance through the experiences of Cassian Andor. It is set during the time of the oppressive Galactic Empire. The show delves into themes of resistance, sacrifice, and the moral complexities of rebellion. The 1st season introduces Cassian's world, highlighting his evolution from a self-serving survivor to a committed revolutionary. At first, he’s just trying to survive, but after facing personal loss and seeing the Empire’s cruelty, he slowly becomes part of the growing Rebellion.

The show highlights how common people start fighting back, each for their own reasons. It’s a story that focuses on how the rebellion began, with new characters and important moments leading up to the events of Rogue One. In an interview with Collider, Diego Luna, the show's main lead, shared how important Tony Gilory’s vision for the show is and how he managed to pull it off.

He said, “It's Tony Gilroy. He's so ambitious, and he takes so much time, and he delivers. Every character has a meaning, has a reason, has a journey, and he pays attention to all the details. There's no characters there just because we need to trigger something. There's an important reason. We are talking about the journey of someone that decides to give everything for the cause, you know?” He further added, “ I just feel really proud to be part of such a rich show. We have 12 episodes of 40-something minutes and I don't think we wasted any time.”
