Jayce comes from the city of Piltover. Piltover is known as the "City of Progress" because of its growth in technology, science, and wealth. Piltover is a place of progress and innovation, where scientists and inventors work to create new and powerful machines. Jayce grew up here and from a young age, he is shown as an intelligent and creative person. He dreams of making discoveries that will help people and improve their lives. Even though Jayce is from Piltover, he has a connection to the lower city, Zaun.

His inventions and research play an important role in the relationship between these two cities. However, as he gains power and influence, he struggles to balance his values with the truth of politics and leadership. His story is about goals, responsibility, and the cost of progress. Kevin Alejandro, the actor who is the voice behind Jayce, talked about how he is impressed by the character of Jayce. In an interview with Buzzfeed, he said, "Coming from a working-class background and rising up to help Piltover, to help his friends, to help the people that surround him...I could understand that journey. I just loved Jayce's entire emotional arc and was like that's my guy, that's who I want to be."
