Timothy Walter Burton, popularly known as Tim Burton, is a renowned American director, screenwriter, animator, and producer, born on August 25, 1958, in Burbank, California, United States. He is known for his gothic, horror, and supernatural fantasy films. He graduated from the California Institute of the Arts, where he studied character animation. He worked on many films as an animator including The Fox and the Hound (1981), Tron (1982), and The Black Cauldron (1985).


He made his debut as a director with the film Pee-wee's Big Adventure in 1985. He gained popularity with the film Beetlejuice (1988) starring Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, and Catherine O’Hara, and Edward Scissorhands (1990) starring Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder. He is best known for his work in Batman (1989), Batman Returns (1992), Planet of the Apes (2001), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005), Corpse Bride (2005), Alice in Wonderland (2010), Dark Shadows (2012), etc.


Over his long career, Tim Burton has won and been nominated for many awards for his work in various films, including a Primetime Emmy Award, nominations for the Academy Award, Golden Globe Award, and BAFTA Awards. In 2007, he was honored with the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice Film Festival.
