After Nancy’s best friend Barbara Holland disappeared, she became distant from Steve, and they later broke up in season 2. Steve forms a bond with Dustin after Dustin asks his help to find his pet, a creature from the Upside Down, and to learn how to talk to girls. He helped Dustin, Mike, Lucas, and Max, becoming a big brother to them.

He protects the children from the attacks of Demidog and plays an important part in defeating the Mind Flayer. He had a protective and kind side to him. He also saved the kids from Billy, Max’s stepbrother. His friendship with Dustin became an iconic and important part of the show.

In season 4, he helped the group when they planned to kill Vecna. He along with Nancy, Robin, and Eddie get trapped in the Upside Down. On their way, he confesses to Nancy that he still loves her and thanks her for making him a better person. Despite their efforts, they fail to prevent Vecna's 4th gate from opening. In the end, he volunteered to help the victims affected by the destruction caused by the incident.

Joseph David Keery, also known as Joe Keery, played the role of Steve Harrington in Stranger Things. He is an American actor and musician born on April 24, 1992, in Newburyport, Massachusetts. He participated in high school plays and theater performances when he was younger. He started his acting career in the year 2015 with the film Henry Gamble's Birthday Party. He is best known for his role in Stranger Things. He has won the Screen Actors Guild Award along with his co-actors.

Apart from Stranger Things, he has been a part of many projects like Spree (2020), Free Guy (2021), Finalmente l'alba (2023), No Activity (2019-2021), Fargo (2020), and more. Besides acting, he also has a career in music, and his stage name is Djo. He used to be part of the psych-rock band Post Animal as a guitarist and drummer. In 2019, he left the band because of his acting projects. He has released 2 studio albums- Twenty Twenty in 2019 and Decide in 2022.
