Arcane is an award-winning animated show set in the universe based on the popular video game League of Legends. The show is made by Riot Games and animated by Fortiche Production. The show was released on Netflix in November 2021. It explores the beginning of iconic League of Legends characters, mainly focusing on the difficult relationship between two sisters, Vi and Jinx. They get caught up in a battle between their home in Zaun and the rich and advanced city of Piltover.
Both seasons of Arcane gained high viewership and became Netflix's highest-rated show within a week of its premiere. The show also made it to Netflix's Top 10 list in more than 50 countries. Who is Vander in Arcane?
Vander is an important character in the show and is a father figure to Vi and Jinx. He is the leader of Zaun’s undercity and is an ex-rebel who fought against Piltover’s control. However, after seeing the result of violence, Vander gives up fighting and decides to protect Zaun’s people with peace instead of war. In his later years, he took care of the residents of Zaun and specifically, 4 orphaned children under his protection- Vi, Jinx, Claggor, and Mylo.
Despite his efforts to stop the violence, Vander's past actions catch up with him when Silco, his former friend turned enemy, tries to take control of Zaun. Vander's fight with Silco becomes a major turning point in the show. Silco hates Vander for betraying their dream of a free Zaun and eventually beats him. To protect Vi and the others, Vander is forced to take Shimmer, a powerful serum that enhances strength but affects the mind. Even though he fights bravely, eventually he dies from his injuries, leaving Vi and Jinx heartbroken.
Later in the show, it is revealed that Singed found Vander’s body and took him to his lab. He tries to save him with his experiments, but it causes Vander to transform into a wolf-like beast, Warwick.
Who is the voice actor behind Vander in Arcane?
Jean-Benoît Blanc, also known as JB Blanc, is the voice of Vander in the show. He is a British actor, born on February 13, 1969, in Paris, France. He moved to Yorkshire, England with his mother when he was 4. In 1990, he graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. He started his acting career with theatre performances and made his film debut with the film The Count of Monte Cristo in 2002. He made his TV debut with a minor role in the show Dr. Vegas in 2004.
