Who is Gloria in Modern Family?

Gloria Pritchett is the second wife of Jay Pritchett and the mother to Manny Delgado and Joe Pritchett in Modern Family. She was introduced in season 1 episode 1 of the show as Jay’s much younger wife while he is a senior citizen, smartly tackling the taboo topic of age gap relations. Gloria Pritchett (earlier Ramirez) is the daughter of Pilar Ramirez and Fulgencio Ramirez.

Before falling in love with Jay, she was married to Javier Delgado with whom she had her first son Manny Delgado. However, their marriage ended after Javier left her once their son Manny was born and the realization that he was never coming back. Along with Manny, Gloria then paved her way to America, where she met Jay Pritchett at a diner while she was with her cousin Sonia. With Manny becoming Jay’s stepson, the pair welcomed their son Joe Pritchett in season 4.

She is known for her loud, outspoken attitude and expressiveness with her peculiar Spanish accent. When in anger or rage, she goes into a full-rant mode in her native language.

Jay Pritchett was married to DeDe Williams before marrying Gloria in Modern Family. DeDe is the mother to Jay’s two kids, Claire and Mitchell Pritchett. After being married for 35 years, Jay decided to divorce DeDe after they grew apart. DeDe later left to find herself but often appears in some episodes of Modern Family, leading to her blaming Gloria for her divorce from Jay. DeDe’s character later passed away in the show.

He is a veteran of the Vietnam War and is the founder and former CEO of Pritchett's Closets & Blinds, which he later handed over to his daughter Claire. He later went on to start a new business called Dog Beds By Stella. After marrying Gloria, Jay became step-dad for her son Manny and the couple had a son named Joe in season 4.
