Her mother, Astri John-Kamen, is from Norway and used to work as a fashion model. In an interview with Flaunt Magazine, she talked about her family and said, “I don’t have any other actors in my family. My dad’s a forensic psychologist, and my mom was a Norwegian model. I don’t know where it came from, but it was definitely there.”

In an interview with Interview Magazine, she shared that her family has always supported her acting career, and she used to watch old films with her mother during childhood. She said, “My parents are so supportive of whatever we want to do and completely nurtured that, and they’re so proud of that as well.” She added, “My dad left his psychology hat at the door and put his dad hat on when he came into the house. In an interview with The Standard, she shared how her father helped her when she met Steven Spielberg in 2017 for her audition for the film Ready Player One. She said, ‘I had been playing it cool all the way there and didn’t even tell my parents I was going. Then, when I said my name at reception, it didn’t feel real. That’s when I panicked, so I went to the bathroom and called my dad. It was the middle of the night back home in England. He asked if there was a mirror and told me to look in it, and he said: “You are Hannah John-Kamen, you are going to be fine, you are my daughter. Hannah John-Kamen is the youngest of three siblings, with an older sister and an older brother. In an interview with Interview Magazine, she talked about her siblings and said, “My sister’s a doctor and I have an older brother as well. He went into the music industry; he’s very musically talented.” She added, “There’s a big age gap between my brother and I, my brother being the eldest, my sister being in the middle, and me being the youngest.”

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she talked about how she felt when she got the part in the Star Wars film and her connection to the franchise, as her brother is a sci-fi fan. She said, “It’s the biggest franchise, and I grew up with it because of my brother. My brother is 12 years older than me, but Star Wars is his passion. It’s his life. So being there on a ship and seeing everyone in costume having a sandwich in between takes was surreal.”
