What happens in The Amazing Race?

Every season of The Amazing Race is split into legs, where teams must solve puzzles, find their way around new environments, interact with locals, complete mental and physical tasks, and use public transit including taxis, aeroplanes, and boats while staying within the show's restricted budget. The first team to reach the finish of the last leg wins the US$1 million grand prize, while teams are gradually eliminated after most legs. Every race lasts between 21 and 30 days on average.
