Based on the BBC series The Office, which ran from 2001 to 2003 and was developed by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, The Office is an American mockumentary comedy television series. With nine seasons and 201 episodes, the sitcom ran from March 24, 2005, to May 16, 2013, and it depicted the daily lives of office workers at the fictional Dunder Mifflin Paper Company's Scranton, Pennsylvania, branch.

In the series, Stanley is approaching the end of his career as a senior salesman. He had to deal with discrimination at work ever since he was employed by Dunder Mifflin as their first "urban" worker in 1989, and he eventually came to tolerate it almost to the point of indifference. He doesn't care about anything that occurs in the office under Michael's leadership since he doesn't genuinely care about Michael or his management.

He leaves the office at five o'clock, sometimes earlier. Stanley violates several conventions, including the fact that he was the first Black employee to be employed by Dunder Mifflin (in 1989), that he cheats on his wife with two women, and that he is never seen without a puzzle magazine at meetings or occasionally at his desk.

Stanley may give the impression of being slower, but he is actually a very successful salesman who hits his commission cap early. As a result, he has a lot of free time, which he uses to read adventure literature. He eagerly awaits his retirement and will take any chance to remove himself from the dull routine of his work.
