Created by Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson, Fear the Walking Dead is the first spin-off to The Walking Dead. The show initially started as a prequel to the main series but caught up to the same timeline within three seasons and ran concurrently with The Walking Dead. So much so, that Morgan Jones and a few other side characters crossed over to join the ensemble cast. That included Kim Dickens, Cliff Curtis, Frank Dillane, Alycia Debnam-Carey, and several other stars on the list. The series was well received by fans and critics alike with many praising the cast and the direction the show was going in.
When does Fear the Walking Dead return?
Unfortunately, Fear the Walking Dead will not be returning for a ninth season as the series concluded with its eighth and final season. The announcement for the same came in January 2023, with the final season concluding in November of the same year. While an exact reason was never given, fans believed that it was the right time to end the show and so did cast members.
As reported by ComicBook.com, Danay Garcia revealed "One of the funniest questions I get asked is, 'What happened to Fear the Walking Dead that it's ending?' Nothing happened. What happened is that we've been on the air for eight seasons, and we felt like it was a really fun run. Nothing really happened to Fear. It's just that we've been on the air for quite some time, and it's the time [to end]. I'm just so grateful for everyone that I've crossed paths with."
How many seasons did Fear the Walking Dead have?
Premiering in August 2016, Fear the Walking Dead ran for a total of eight seasons between 2015 and 2023 with a total of 113 episodes by the time the show concluded with its final season. The episode count per season remained consistent for a large part as only the 1st, 2nd, and 8th seasons had fewer than 16 episodes (6, 15, and 12 respectively). Furthermore, only the final season, season 8, was split into two parts of six episodes each with the first part airing between May and June 2023 while the second aired between October and November of the same year.
