In Part 2 of the two-part episode, named Who Shot Mr. Burns, it is revealed that Maggie shot Mr Burns.

When Part 1 of The Simpsons’ episode “Who Shot Mr. Burns?” was released in May 1995, it aired as the season finale of season 6 of the critically acclaimed television show. However, the episode left things on a cliffhanger with Mr Burns, the episode’s antagonist, left shot by an unidentified assailant. That became a hot topic from the time the finale aired until Part 2 aired when season 7 premiered. So much so that Fox offered a contest to tie in with the episode for callers to guess, and even launched a website that got over 500,000 hits during that summer. However, nobody got the answer correct, and many were shocked when Part Two aired, when the killer was revealed.

At the end of Part Two of the two-part episode titled “Who Shot Mr Burns?”, it is revealed that the shooter is Maggie Simpson. Part One of the two-part episode begins with Mr Burns making an enemy out of nearly everyone in Springfield after he steals oil from the school. He then takes one step further by firing employees for not listening to him, including his loyal personal assistant Waylon J. Smithers Jr., as well as Groundskeeper Willie and more.

That wasn’t enough for Mr Burns as he then built a device to block out the sun, forcing everyone in town to use his electricity to light up their lives. Things come to a climax after a town meeting, which is held to discuss Burns’ actions, where most of the townspeople arrive with guns. However, after the meeting, Mr Burns activates the sun-blocking device, leaves, and is seen struggling with a figure before a shot rings out.

The entirety of Part Two is dedicated to finding the killer, with the suspects narrowed down to Waylon J. Smithers Jr and Homer Simpson. Smithers gets an alibi and is decided to be not guilty of the crime early on in the episode, while Homer is the prime suspect after the gun that shot Mr Burns is found under the seat in his car with his fingerprints on it. However, after the episode reaches its climax in the hospital, Mr Burns rejects Homer as a suspect and instead points to his youngest child, and baby, Maggie Simpson. He reveals that the two struggled, and his own gun went off in the struggle, shooting him.
