Billy Magnussen is an American actor, born on April 20, 1985, in New York City, United States. He completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. He started his acting career with theatre in 2007. He made his TV debut with the show As the World Turns (2008-2010) and his film debut with Happy Tears in 2009.

Billy Magnussen is the son of Daina and Greg Magnussen. His father, Greg Magnussen, was a professional bodybuilder and kickboxer, and his mother, Daina Magnussen, was an aerobics instructor. In an interview with Interview Magazine, he talked about the artistic side of his parents and said, “My mother is very, very into painting and art and drawing. My father is a carpenter so he knows how to shape wood and work with wood.”

In an interview with Forsyth County, he shared that his parents guided and encouraged him “to explore and go on that adventure that is life.” In an interview with People, he talked about his parent’s fitness and said, “My mom was an aerobics instructor – she wore spandex and sweat bands and stuff. It was awesome. My dad was a professional kickboxer and bodybuilder. I have this picture of him after winning a kickboxing match in 1980. It’s ridiculous.”

In the same interview, he shared that he used to wrestle in high school, and after an injury, his parents signed him up for drama classes. He said, “they put me in drama class because I couldn’t take gym class. And I found out it was awesome! I went to college for it and I was like, this is brilliant.” In an interview with Juan A. Ramirez, he talked about his 1st major project and said, “My dream was always to be on Broadway, and I was fortunate enough to get cast in the ensemble of the Ritz. You can be a cowboy.” I think he is a cowboy, honestly.” He also shared that his siblings look up to him as he is older than them.

He said, “They have to look up to me. I’ve got to step up my game. We were wrestlers growing up. My brother was, like, state champion of Georgia—heavyweight state champion. He was massive. It doesn’t matter how old we get, we get home to our parents house and we move all the furniture out of the way and we have to have wrestling matches. He kicks my ass every time, but I have to at least try to beat him up.” His brother, Dane, also won an individual state championship during high school.
