Dexter: Resurrection is a sequel to New Blood and is set to continue the story. Dexter awakens from a coma to discover that Harrison, the son who almost fatally shot him, is missing. The series will premiere on Paramount+ with Showtime on July 11, 2025.

The Dexter franchise began in 2006 when Showtime premiered the original series starring Michael C. Hall as Dexter Morgan, a forensic blood spatter analyst for the Miami Metro Police Department. However, Dexter harbors a dark secret, and as described in the show’s IMDB summary, he is “America’s favorite serial killer.” Season 1 was inspired by Jeff Lindsay’s novel Darkly Dreaming Dexter (2004). The titular character uses his forensic expertise to eliminate criminals he believes have evaded justice.

In 2021, the franchise was revived with Dexter: New Blood, set ten years after the original finale. Having faked his death in Miami, Dexter now lives under an alias in Upstate New York. The series also introduces his teenage son, Harrison (played by Jack Alcott).

In 2024, Dexter: Original Sin premiered as a prequel set in 1991. It follows a young Dexter Morgan (played by Patrick Gibson) as he learns to navigate his emerging violent impulses. Guided by his adoptive father Harry’s code, he begins a forensic internship. Michael C. Hall returns as the voice of Dexter’s inner monologue.
