Tyler Galpin is the monster aka the Hyde in the Netflix series Wednesday.

Wednesday is an American supernatural-thriller show created for Netflix by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar with the initial four episodes directed by famous director Tim Burton. The show is based on Charles Addams’s character Wednesday Addams, who is sent to a new school called Nevermore made for outcasts which is being terrorized by a murder mystery.

The show stars Jenna Ortega, Emma Myers, Percy Hynes White, Christina Ricci, Gwendoline Christie, Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Hunter Doohan, and many others in lead roles. The show was released on November 23, 2022, on Netflix with a total of 8 episodes. The second season is currently in the making.

Who is Tyler Galpin?

Tyler Galpin, aka the Hyde, is the son of Donovan Galpin and his late wife, Francoise Galpin, who take an interest in Wednesday (played by Jenna Ortega). He is introduced in the show as the chirpy barista at the Weathervane Café. He met Wednesday while working in the cafe, and she caught his attention. In the show’s midway, Galpin falls for Wednesday and confesses his feelings for her.

However, the secrets that the character held turned out to be a major plot twist for the show. Tyler Galpin, the golden boy, turns out to be the main antagonist aka the Hyde who is planning revenge against the Nevermore Academy and the killer in the Jericho monster killings.

How did Tyler Galpin become a Hyde?

Tyler Galpin’s mother was a Hyde. Galpin’s mom Francoise was suffering through postpartum depression which triggered the release of her Hyde and was passed on to Tyler. After Francoise’s passing, Tyler’s father avoided him and his Hyde form was dormant throughout his childhood. Marilyn Thornhill aka Laurel Gates (the actual antagonist) found Galpin and manipulated him into awakening his monstrous side. With the use of plant chemicals and by keeping Galpin captive and torturing him, Laurel successfully became Galpin’s Hyde master and he started to serve her voluntarily.
