Hey AMC fans, what is it that they say about the best laid plans? I had planned to do a fun little column that offered my thoughts on what would make 2010 a successful year.

Last week, for the first time in a couple of weeks, five full-length episodes of All My Children were broadcast. But let's face it, AMC fans, only one of those episodes really mattered.

Why does it always take some sort of medical malady to figure out a kid's paternity? I suppose the only other alternative is to have a Pine Valley version of Maury Povich's show.

I never imagined that I'd find a parallel between Facebook and the soaps. Bear with me here as I try to explain this idea that's bouncing around in my head.

Have you ever tuned in to a show and felt that the writers of the show were just trying to mess with your head. I'm not talking about the way that a show like "Lost" does it.

For the past year or so, All My Children has been missing the humor that it used to have. There have been moments of zaniness -- remember the "birth" of Liza's pretend baby in the basement of Tad's house? -- but most of the humor appeared forced, liked the endless lightbulb jokes Tad told after being shot.

I was brought up being told that if you don't have something nice to say, you don't say anything at all. As I got older, I was introduced to that adage's evil twin: If you don't have something nice to say, come sit next to me.

Forget about Fashion Week, All My Children is its own trendsetter. And let me tell you readers, kidnapping and abduction is all the rage for the spring season.

Hello, AMC Fans, here comes a voice from the past. Just like on our beloved soap opera, someone who has been away for a while pops up.

Hey everybody -- I'm back! Thanks to Suellen for popping in last week to cover the Two Scoops column for me while I was playing with the cast of All My Children in Los Angeles.

I don't know if it is because I am getting older or just because I am busier than usual, but I seem to be losing my mind. I spent an hour the other day looking for my car keys -- only to find that they were in my pocket.

In the age of millions and billions, 250 doesn't sound like such a big number. But that's roughly how many episodes a soap opera puts out each year.

Dan is on assignment this week, but he'll be back with a Two Scoops column next week. In his place, Audra drops by for her first visit as a Two Scooper.

After a week away from you guys, I'm back -- and I'm ready to jump right back in to the dishing.

All My Children is at a crossroads. For a period of a year -- maybe longer -- many fans felt the show was totally unwatchable.

Greenlee Smythe is one character that fans either seem to love... or hate.

There was never any question that All My Children would be emotional last week, but I don't know if I was fully prepared for how everything played out. To lose two phenomenal figures in AMC history in one week -- one to death and one to retirement -- has left an emptiness in my heart.

Sweeps is upon us, All My Children fans -- and it started with a good squeal-worthy moment. Anyone who reads the latest soap news here on soapcentral.com knew that Kate Collins was set to reprise her role as Janet Green.

Every now and again when I am watching the soaps, I feel like I morph into an eye doctor. As a plot plays out, I sometimes wonder, "Is it better like this? Or better like this?"

Do you remember back in the day when Amanda's only storylines had to do with falling in and out of bed with someone? I have to admit that I've always liked Chrishell Stause, but for the longest time I felt that her talent was being wasted by writers who either didn't know what type of story to craft for her or writers who felt that a pretty face couldn't have a meaty role.

Talk about an amazing Sweeps storyline. On a routine trip from Pigeon Hollow, West Virginia, to Pine Valley, Pennsylvania, Erica Kane's private jet crashed on a remote desert island because Zach didn't enter numbers into a computer.

I often read message boards, magazine columns, and surf around the 'net to see what different people are saying about the various characters on the soaps. Though I write the Two Scoops column for All My Children, my job here at soapcentral.com requires me to keep up with all the different soaps and their characters.

For the second week in a row, we were presented with just four original episodes of All My Children. Last week the show was preempted for coverage of the horrific oil spill and this week we were shortchanged because of a Memorial Day repeat.

When Mary Fickett retired from All My Children, the show quietly recast the role. I remember that the recast caused a lot of confusion for viewers.

In the course of a few weeks, Caleb has gone from funnyman with zinger after zinger... to an obnoxious bully... to a heartbroken hermit who may or may not have a sensitive side.

Whoever has been spreading the nasty lies that I would not be writing this column this week should be given some of David's mystery drug. I think it's inappropriate to... oh, wait. Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

Normally soap opera nightmares are only spooky to the on-screen character having the dream. That wasn't the case last week.

Nowadays, it seems like everyone is on some sort of social networking site. I'm sure by now you know that you can follow soapcentral.com on both Facebook and Twitter.

Watching All My Children is becoming increasingly like watching an episode of reality television. It has nothing to do with the visual aesthetics, but everything to do with the quality if what's playing out on-screen.

It's been seven or eight months now since All My Children landed in Los Angeles, so I suppose that I should be used to all the new little persons (that's the polite term for kids, I am told) that are playing the Pine Valley kids. I'm not.

To so many people -- people who don't get it -- soaps are meaningless, mindless fluff. In last week's column, I asked you, the readers, to send me All My Children storylines that you felt were good examples of realism.

Brace yourselves for a shock. I may be warming up to Damon.

Each and every week you welcome me into your computer screens to hear all about what I like and dislike on All My Children. That means so much to me (even if some of your monitors could use a little Swiffer action). Just kidding!

Apparently, All My Childen's newish head writers, David Kreizman and Donna Swajeski, don't need to wait for a Sweeps period to generate a lot of interest in a storyline. This week, someone -- a major character at that -- is going to get whacked.

Following up last week's column was a monumental undertaking. First, the huge response to that column was overwhelming.

Despite the fact that there were several stories taking place on the AMC canvas before David died, they've all sort of come together -- or temporarily paused -- into one big, connected story. It's sort of the opposite of the much-ballyhooed umbrella storyline.

What I love about soap fans -- and something that might also be to our detriment in terms of being able to enjoy the shows we watch every weekday -- is that we never forget anything. Sure, from time to time we may need a little refresher, but for the most part... we remember everything that's ever happened in Pine Valley.

I am so used to people not doing anything nice in Pine Valley that I have to admit I was stunned to see Kendall and Bianca take off after a distraught Marissa. Usually, everyone is too self-absorbed with their own troubles to ever notice that someone else needs an ear or a shoulder to cry on.

If only it were easy to figure out why in the world the residents of Pine Valley are doing the things that they're doing. It might make life a lot easier for everyone involved.

Soap operas need to remain on the air. Sure, they are entertaining, but where else can you also be educated on life's most important issues?

I've owned and operated the Soap Central web site for more than 15 years now, and there are certain things that I think I tend to assume that folks know about me. Since this site started as The AMC Pages, an All My Children-only fan site, I know that many of you have been here since Day One or pretty near it because of your love of all things Pine Valley.

Something funny happened on All My Children last week -- and it sort of threw me for a loop. For those of you who have been reading this column for a bit of time, you may have noticed that after I post a column about my disappointment with something on the show, the show usually addresses that item within the next week.

Try as they might to get through the day unscathed, nearly everyone in Pine Valley has some sort of target on their back. It's not always a literal target in the sense that someone is going to be shot at.

November 8, 2010
It never ceases to amaze me when a character changes the way that they treat another when they suddenly find out that they're related. If you dislike someone, man up and hate them even when they turn out to be your long-lost kid.

November 15, 2010
If I didn't love All My Children, I probably wouldn't be writing a weekly commentary about the show. I think that in order to offer a critique you have to care... otherwise it would be easy to just pack it in and move on to something else.

November 22, 2010
There are certain soap opera devices that I think every soap fan knows about -- even if they don't have decades of viewing under their belt. For example, any woman who faints is usually pregnant.

I had planned to let you, the readers, have the say in this week's column. After all, last week featured just three new episodes -- and what could happen in that short amount of time? Boy, was I wrong.

Don't tell the other Two Scoops columnists, but I think my readers are the best. Of course, I have a special place in my heart for everyone that visits the soapcentral.com site

Elephants are celebrated not only in cartoons for their oversized ears, but also for the memory. With all due respect to anyone who might be offended by this comparison: soap fans are just like elephants. They never forget anything.

Where did the year go? It feels like only yesterday that I was submitting my Year In Review columns for 2009.
