Nash was stunned when he found Claudia on the floor, nursing the wound from Jessica's right hook to her face. Nash wondered what had set Jessica off, and Claudia insisted that Jessica had struck out in jealousy after discovering that they'd slept together. Jessica denied hitting Claudia because she'd been jealous, but when Nash once again tried to get an explanation, Jessica deferred the question to Claudia, saying she knew what she'd said that had led to their violent confrontation.

Nash asked Jessica to leave, but before she did, she threw Nash some advice that the next time he decided to get into bed with Claudia, he should settle for a cold shower instead. She also told Claudia that anytime she wanted a rematch, Jessica would be waiting. After Jessica left, Nash asked Claudia what she'd said. Claudia denied setting off Jessica, and even if she had, there had been no reason for her violent reaction. When she threatened to press charges, Nash stepped in, saying that she would never see him again if she did.

Adriana and Rex ran into Michael and Marcie in the hallway of the joint that Roxy managed. They were just about to look at a room for Adriana to rent when Michael asked them if they had seen Natalie. Rex wondered why they seemed so concerned about Natalie until Michael filled them in on the accident and John's death. They also told Rex how they'd thought that telling Natalie that John had planned to propose to her might bring her some joy in the tragic time, but instead, Natalie had freaked out and run off. They then told Eve about their encounter with Natalie; Eve began to feel responsible for springing too much on Natalie too soon. Michael and Marcie comforted Eve and insisted that she not blame herself for trying to give Natalie the engagement ring that John would have wanted her to have.

Cris found Natalie in Angel Square, and when he revealed that he knew about John's death, Natalie broke down in his arms. She told Cris that she couldn't believe that John was dead after all they'd been through and how happy he'd been before he'd left to visit his father's grave. Natalie shared with Cris how John had had a special evening planned for her that would have ended with him asking her to marry him, which she had just found out from Michael and Marcie.

Cris believed that Natalie should be happy to know that she had been loved by the man she loved so much, and knowing how much she had touched him should bring some comfort to her. Cris didn't want Natalie to be alone and asked her if she would like him to take her home, but Natalie insisted on going to John's place. They ran into Eve, who took over where Cris had left off by telling Natalie how excited John had been about spending the rest of his life with Natalie.

Evangeline went to the station and encountered Antonio working. She presented him with a book of John's that she thought he might like. When Antonio wondered if she would like to keep it, Evangeline told him that she had other things of John's. Antonio gave her a shoulder to cry on as she remembered the good times and the bad times with John. When she began to wonder if she had been too hard on him, Antonio told her that John had known how much she'd loved him, so Evangeline decided to remember only the good times that they'd shared. Nash interrupted their talk, and Evangeline left. Antonio, who was irritated that Nash was there, became even more irritated when Nash revealed that Jessica had punched Claudia in the face because she'd discovered that they'd slept together and wasn't happy about it.

Clint looked for Natalie at the coffee shop and shared the bad news with Carlotta, who was stunned that such a good man had passed. A jealous Dorian spied them together and laid into Clint for moving on so soon after they'd broken up. Clint told Dorian to shut up and wondered if she had seen Natalie, since he was desperate to find her and help her deal with her grief over losing John. Dorian apologized for her outburst and asked Clint to let her help him deal with it like she'd helped him deal with Jessica's ordeal.

Adriana overheard Dorian and told Mr. Buchanan that he should stay away from someone as cold and calculating as her mother. She reminded him how Dorian had almost gotten her and Rex killed when she'd hired a man to stalk her. Clint told Adriana that she needn't worry because he had no intention of getting back with Dorian. Dorian couldn't believe that Adriana could be so cold, but Adriana said she had learned from the best. After Dorian left, Adriana became more determined than ever to exact revenge on Dorian by ensuring that Dorian was never happy again; she decided that she and Rex needed to devise a plan to get Viki and Clint back together.

Clint ran into Jessica while searching for Natalie. Jessica filled him in on her fight with Claudia and her fear that she was becoming more like Tess every day. Clint assured her that what she was experiencing was all part of the integration, and eventually, things would calm down. After Jessica filled him in on what had led to her altercation with Claudia, Clint told her that it seemed like a case of jealousy to him.

Roxy and Rex tried to cheer up Natalie as they shared stories about John. They toasted John with beers and cheese puffs until Roxy wondered if John would mind. Natalie assured them both that John had had a sense of humor and that he wouldn't have minded. At the mention of John's name, the wind blew, leaving Natalie to believe that John was with them in the room. The thought of John being around concerned Roxy, who was eager to rent out the "deceased" cop's room.

Rex scolded Roxy on her lack of tact and compassion, but Natalie decided that it was time to gather John's things together, since she couldn't see staying there without him. Roxy helped her pack up John's things, and Natalie decided to give them to his mother and brother. When Roxy asked if she wanted to keep anything, Natalie held up the engagement ring, declaring that she had all she needed. Natalie took one final look at John's apartment before handing over the key and departing.

Paige's concern for "her" son turned to anger at Spencer when he showed up at the hospital to check on Hugh. Paige told him that Hugh didn't want anything to do with him, but Spencer insisted that he had a right to be with his son and produced a court order stating that fact. Nora apologized for going behind Paige's back and informing Spencer about Hugh's condition. Paige told Nora that she had told too many lies, and she was not upset by Nora's revelation.

Paige backed off, and Spencer went in the room to visit with Hugh. He told Hugh that he hoped he would be able to tell Hugh one day why he'd done all the things he had. When Spencer referred to himself as Hugh's father, Hugh became very agitated, and Spencer was escorted out. Paige yelled at Spencer that the last thing Hugh needed was aggravation, and since the mere mention of his name got Hugh agitated, Spencer needed to leave him alone. Spencer was escorted back to jail while Paige stayed behind until Hugh's adoptive parents showed up.

Layla and Adriana decided to set some ground rules while they were living together, such as whether they would share food, and no men sleeping over. Adriana was thrown by that last rule until Layla broke into a smile. Rex met up with Adriana at the diner and was thrilled when they discussed their apartment hunting misfortunes. His smile quickly changed when Layla and Adriana revealed that they had put down a deposit on an apartment. Rex told Adriana that he would miss waking up with her, but Adriana said the only difference was whether it would be her place or his that they woke up in.

Evangeline tried to calm Cris down while they awaited word on the boxing commission's decision regarding Cris's latest bout. Evangeline talked about pressing criminal charges against whoever was responsible for getting Cris into the mess. Cris started to become anxious and decided to wait for the decision at the coffee shop instead. Shaun approached Vincent with his suspicions about Ted. He informed Vincent how Ted seemed to have come into a lot of money right around the time of Cris's loss, due to a death in the family. Vincent swore his right-hand man to secrecy but asked Shaun to let him know if he heard anything else. Vincent found Cris and Evangeline and delivered the bad news that the boxing commission had ruled that Cris had taken a dive.

Kelly was nervous as she talked to her doctor about family illnesses. She gave all the information she could about the Buchanan history then told the doctor that if she needed any more information, then she would have to contact the baby's grandfather, which would be very awkward for her. Her doctor assured her that they would only need more information if there was a problem, which, at the moment, there wasn't. Blair walked in and offered Kelly her support.

Kelly asked Blair if she would be her coach for childbirth classes, and an honored Blair agreed until Jack needed her help with a homework assignment, so she called Kevin in to take her place with Kelly. Kevin, who had just finished discussing with Antonio the difficulties and joys of raising another man's baby, met up with Kelly at the doctor's office, offering himself as a friend so that Kelly would not have to face things alone. He also offered to be Kelly's coach during childbirth. A touched Kelly agreed to think about it and got ready to have her ultrasound.

Cris vowed to prove that he had been set up, and he intended to get his license back. He would fight again to win the title. Vincent told him he was finished. He'd lost out, too, his manager declared. Abbott's gloves had been checked and found to be fine. Vincent wanted their contract dissolved. Evangeline assured Cris that she would stick by him, no matter what. The first step would be to talk to all of Abbott's people, Cris decided. Todd stopped by and sarcastically wished Cris luck. Whoever had bet against him had won lots of money, he said.

Later, Evangeline stopped Cris from tossing out all of his paints. He was down, not being able to fight or paint any longer due to his hand. She angrily told him that his life wasn't over, and she would help him rebuild that life. Cris, in turn, tried to get her to talk about John, but it seemed weird to her. She understood when Cris told her he had offered his support to Natalie.

Natalie finally showed up at Llanfair, much to everyone's relief. She listened to everyone extend their sympathy and understanding and knew that her family had been through lots of pain, too. However, she couldn't accept that her pain would ever go away and was sure it would be with her forever. She explained that she'd spent time with Rex and Roxy, and it had also been difficult trying to juggle two families; each had a different way of showing support. She affirmed that she would never feel alive again.

Kevin and Kelly showed up together, seemingly at peace with each other. They showed everyone the baby's ultrasound picture and promised to tell the baby all about Duke. The young children in the family would also hear about John, Natalie promised. She told everyone of the marriage proposal that had almost happened.

Starr's teacher asked Todd to speak to her class about the legal system, but he declined. Brittany and her friends harassed Starr at school, but when Starr announced that she was just like her dad and would not put up with any nonsense, the girls pulled back. When Starr and her friend spotted the football hunks who hung out with their foes, they made a plan to get back at the girls. Flirting with the boys and mentioning who Starr's dad happened to be, the girls were invited to what promised to be a wild party.

Adriana and Layla moved into their new place, aided by an exhausted Rex, who carted their belongings up the four flights of stairs. They both needed new jobs but declined Rex's offer to work at Ultraviolet. Adriana couldn't possibly have him as a boss, and Layla just couldn't work at two different clubs. Rex voiced his disappointment about Adriana not moving in with him, but she promised to think about it after she got her own life in order. She needed to know who Adriana was before she figured out who Rex and Adriana were together. She agreed to leave a toothbrush at Rex's place. They christened the new apartment after Layla left to pick up some coffee.

At the diner, Vincent lamented his reputation being trashed along with Cris. His bodyguard felt bad about the situation. When Todd arrived and accused Vincent of being the person who had set up Cris, the mobster was indignant. Todd retorted that he had overheard Vincent's own man Ted talking about it. Vincent insisted that Todd had nothing on him and instead changed the subject. He shouted that Todd was hot for Evangeline. Before they could go any further, Layla interrupted them, and they had to quickly make up a story. She informed Vincent about Hugh being in the accident.

When Todd stated matter-of-factly that he hoped the D.A. died slowly with lots of pain, Vincent responded with bashing John. The men started to argue, but Layla broke it up. Todd could see that Vincent had a thing for Layla, and she would be unhappy to know what he'd done. They reached an uneasy agreement. Todd wouldn't squeal on Vincent for setting Cris up, and Vincent wouldn't relate the fact that Todd was after Evangeline.

Michael, Eve, and Marcie were meeting with the funeral home director when Natalie showed up. "Do I count as family?" she asked. Michael assured Natalie that she was family, but they hadn't wanted to upset her. Eve asked her to please stay. Natalie asked what they were planning for the funeral. Michael said there would be an honor guard from the Llanview Police Department and bagpipes. After choosing the casket, which was very difficult, she exited and ran into Cris in Angel Square. She then sat on a park bench and tried not to cry as Vince almost interrupted her reverie.

In the ICU, Kelly visited Hugh as Paige watched from afar. Kelly started to cry when she talked to Paige about how successful Hugh had become. "I wish I had told him [I was his mother] sooner," Paige said wistfully. Kelly assured Paige that Hugh would pull through. Kelly told Paige how Hugh had helped her get through the beginning of her pregnancy. "You son is a beautiful, beautiful man," Kelly said through the tears.

Vince tried to convince Cristian to stop trying to get the boxing commission to change its mind. Cris reminded Vincent that his reputation was ruined. "The last thing I need from you is bad PR," barked Vincent. Vincent said Cris needed to accept the situation and move on. Cris wasn't that sure and stormed out of his own apartment. Vincent pounded the door after Cris left.

Evangeline loved the story Todd had published about John McBain. "John is one of the reasons I'm sitting here," Todd said, but he added, "He wasn't an easy guy to like." "Like you," Evangeline said as she smiled. Evangeline grabbed Todd's hand when Blair slithered in and smirked. Evangeline told Blair that she and Todd were having a private conversation. Blair said she was there to talk to Todd about their children.

Evangeline left, and Blair slipped into her seat. They needed to figure out where Jack and Starr were going to live. Todd wondered if Blair would sue for custody but then sniped that she could always just sleep with the judge. Blair stated that she wanted to move back into the penthouse, and she wanted their lives to be the way they had been two years before, the way they were supposed to be. "Marry me, Todd," she said bluntly.

Antonio and Bo were overwhelmed with the volume of flowers that were being delivered for John. Antonio and Bo talked about John. "One of the best cops I ever met," Antonio said. Bo pointed out that John was gone while Spencer Truman was sitting in a cell, trying to get away with murder. Bo and Antonio vowed that wouldn't happen.

Evangeline headed to the police station and asked Bo if he would go through John's office with her. Evangeline had just been retained as the lawyer for the McBain family, and apparently, John had not left a will. Evangeline was hoping they might find something in his office, but she felt awkward going through the office alone. Bo and Evangeline decided to start with the file cabinet. Later, a grief-stricken Bo sat in John's office as Evangeline ran into Cris's arms.

Asa was warmly welcomed back, surrounded by a happy band of Buchanans. Asa congratulated Clint for having dumped Dorian. Bo shared that David Vickers thought Spencer had been behind the mishaps that had happened to the Buchanans on and around New Year's Eve. Bo reminded them that Spencer had been up at the cabin on New Year's Eve. Asa clearly didn't want to talk about it at that moment. Nigel called Asa out on that mysterious black-and-white photo that he had hidden in the drawer. Asa didn't spill any details, but he was uneasy.

David ran into Dorian in a public park. Dorian was horrified to realize that David had spent the night on a park bench. David asked Dorian to accompany him to the funeral. David felt responsible for John's death, in that he had been involved, though not responsible for, Thomas McBain's death, as well. David went to the funeral and spoke directly to Mrs. McBain. David told her that John had given him a second chance, and he thanked her. The McBains were not too responsive, but Bo told David that it had taken guts for him to show up.

Rex arrived at John's funeral and wondered where Natalie was. At Viki's, Roxy slapped Natalie when Natalie, still dressed in her robe, said she didn't see the point in going to John's funeral. Viki encouraged Natalie to go, adding that she'd regret it for the rest of her life if she didn't. Natalie went with her family. She was eager "to get this thing over with." She watched as the police guard carried in the flag-draped coffin to the music from a bagpipe.

With deep emotion, Bo gave the eulogy and spoke movingly about John being a true hero. The priest prayed, and Michael thanked everyone for attending. Natalie sat and touched her engagement ring. The graveside service was beautifully directly and scripted. Each mourner had a few words as they left a flower in the grave. Evangeline sang, "Danny Boy." A tearful Natalie had been given the flag and was the last one to remain seated.
