Born July 15, 2011, Austin Miller is Georgia Miller’s son and Ginny Miller’s younger half-brother. His father is Gil Timmins, but when Austin was three years old, Gil was imprisoned for fraud and embezzlement. This led to Austin becoming mute briefly from the trauma and devastation of losing his father. He, alongside Ginny, grew up in poverty and was constantly on the move with several step-fathers over the course of his life.

Not only that, the family also ended up homeless for brief stints over the course of Austin’s life, and he was often looked after by Ginny. At the start of the series, Austin moves alongside Ginny and Georgia to their new house in Wellsbury, Massachusetts, after the death of his previous stepfather. Over the course of the series, Austin attempts to fit in at a new school, with new friends and in a new town, although things don’t go quite well for the 9-year-old.
