Darnell Williams: A Brief Biography

At A Glance

Emmy Award winner Darnell Williams returned to All My Children from January 2008 to 2011 as Jesse Hubbard, a role he originated from 1981-1988. Mr. Williams won the Daytime Emmy Award for his portrayal of Jesse in 1983 and 1985. Darnell, with Debbi Morgan playing Angie as his love interest, became the first African-American "supercouple" on the daytime serials. In 2011, following the demise of All My Children, Debbie was picked up by The Young and the Restless as a recast of a long-absent character Yolanda Hamilton. Six months later, Darnell was also cast as a new character named only "Sarge".

Mr. Williams was born in London, England. He lived a nomadic life, traveling the world with his family. As an adult he settled in New York City. Following his initial tenure on All My Children, he created the role of Jacob Foster on the ABC Daytime drama Loving and continued the role on its spin-off, The City. Some of his additional television credits include Law & Order, ER, Felicity, NYPD Blue, and True Blue. He has appeared in many films, including Shadowboxer, Short Cuts, Simone, Detour, How You Like Me Now, True Identity, and Sidewalk Stories. Mr. Williams is a familiar presence on the New York stage. Among his many credits are Angels in America, Checkmates, Wit, Blackout, Guilty, and Spaulding Grey: Stories Left to Tell.

From 2001 through 2006, Mr. Williams worked on All My Children as a director and acting coach. He also co-directed the film Manhattanites with Gregori Martin.
