At the Valley Inn, Brooke and Edmund talk to the maitre d', Robert, about the surprise engagement party being held that evening. Robert is confused why it is a surprise party when they know about it. Brooke humors him and said no one else knows they know. Tad entered the dinning room to tell Brooke and Edmund that Jamie decided to attend the party instead of going to the baseball game. Brooke excused herself to talk with Robert about another surprise she has planned. Tad, alone with Edmund, began to vent his frustration to him about how Tempo printed an article interview with Jamie about Vanessa without Tad's permission. Edmund tried to explain his position but Tad would not let him get a word in. Hearing the argument between Tad and Edmund, Brooke interceded to tell Tad Jamie needed to talk to someone about his fears concerning Vanessa. Tad justified his anger saying Jamie is scared now that Vanessa is missing.

Brooke took Tad aside and asked him what was really bothering him. With a heavy sigh Tad related the past days' events involving Liza's surgery, Dixie leaving town and he being fired by Chandler Enterprises' board of directors, prompted by Adam. Brooke was surprised to hear he had lost his job. Tad believed Adam is blaming him for Liza's failed health. Then Tad finally admitted the real reason for his argument with Edmund. Tad is afraid Edmund is coming between him and Jamie. Brooke did her best to reassure Tad he is the best father Jamie ever had. She asked Tad to come to her engagement party with Jamie and he finally agreed.

Leo visited Greenlee in her condo. The purpose of his visit, he said, was that he was concerned about her safety now that Vanessa is missing. Leo recounted the events that happened before her escape including his taping of Vanessa's confession she is faking her split personality. He showed Greenlee the bruises caused by Vanessa's attempt to strangle him. Leo didn't understand how Vanessa could have escaped because she was restrained to her hospital bed. He also commented her behavior was really bizarre and that he didn't believe she was faking this time.

Leo confided to Greenlee that Vanessa told him she had money stashed away. Greenlee and Leo told each other that they really cared about one another and held each other's hand. Suddenly the spell was broken, changing her mood, Greenlee pulled away from Leo. She declared she could take care of herself without his help. Leo told Greenlee to date Jake because he is safe. Greenlee and Leo argued again as they have done before. Leo stormed out of the condo, slamming the door. Instantly there is a knock on the door. When Greenlee opened the door, Leo stuck his head inside her condo and warned her again to be careful. She quickly shuts the door and calls someone on her cell phone. "Do your best GQ thing. You're going to be a lucky man tonight," She said.

Trey showed up at Greenlee's door as summoned. She pulled him inside quickly saying he will protect her. They are going to the Valley Inn for a party.

Hayley asks Mateo if he fired the gun which was found in his pocket. She asked him if he killed Vanessa. Mateo doesn't answer right away. Hayley told Mateo he is shutting her out and she doesn't want that. Hayley kept pressing Mateo to give up making Vanessa pay for hurting their family and if he wouldn't stop she would call Jackson Montgomery and have Mateo arrested for his protection. Mateo couldn't find Vanessa to kill her so he promised he would put his gun away. He told Hayley he was worried about her safety as well as their son, Lorenzo, now that Vanessa was missing. Hayley pleaded with Mateo to get their lives back they way they were. Mateo comforted Hayley in his arms and promised to end his vendetta with Vanessa. They decided to go to Booke's engagement party even though Mateo was concerned Vanessa might show up there.

David and Jack argued in Vanessa's now empty hospital room. Jack cautioned David that whatever he says will be on the record. David told Jack he wanted Vanessa locked up as much as Jack did. Jack asked David if he knew where the missing money is. The money in the offshore account was chump change. David denied knowing anything about Vanessa's money. Jack took the syringe from David's hand which David found in Vanessa's room. It contained the psychotropic drug that caused Vanessa to go berserk. Jack wondered if Vanessa could have injected herself. David said no, it was not possible. Someone had to help her.

Leo and David paced in the hallway at the Valley Inn until they saw Palmer approaching the dining room. They told him about Vanessa's disappearance and asked him if he knew where the money is. Palmer denied all knowledge about the missing drug money and Vanessa's whereabouts. He walked away to join the surprise party.

Leo saw Greenlee and her date, Trey, enter the hallway. He commented about Greenlee's choice in dates as he despised Trey for getting Vanessa her freedom and not a jail sentence. He stopped Greenlee before she could enter the dining room for the party and began to argue once more. Greenlee pulled away from him and ran to the ladies room to repair her mascara.

As the guests began to arrive at the Valley Inn for the engagement party Brooke talked to the singer, Melissa Daar, and asked her to sing a special song. She agreed and went to talk to the pianist about the music. Everyone took their places ready to surprise Edmund when he entered the dining room. Edmund pretended to be surprised and the party began.

Stuart called Hayley on her cell phone to tell her Enzo had an earache. She decided to go home and told Mateo to stay at the party.

The lights in the dining room dimmed. A spotlight focused on the singer whose back was to the guests. As she turned around, she said she hoped they would enjoy the show. The guests gasped as the singer was Vanessa. She held a knife to terrified Greenlee's throat as David and Leo rushed into the room.

Maggie arrives at David's room at the Valley Inn along with her bag of things. She looks over the room and then lays on the bed. She says to herself that this is never going to work. "Says who," asks a curious David.

Kendall arrives at Erica's office. A gracious Erica asks if she's ready to start her new job. Kendall recalls her last stint for working for her mother at Enchantment and how bad of an experience it was. Erica assures her daughter that this time, things will be much different. Ms. Kane gives her an orientation package, which also includes the computer password to the Enchantment computer files. Kendall is overwhelmed and is shocked that her mom is giving her all the secrets to her company on her first day on board. Erica assures her that she will be making fast calls and executive decisions while she's at Enchantment. It's important that she has all the company info from day one. Kendall throws down the folder Erica gave her and asks her what's really going on. Ms. Kane tries to assure her that she hired her because she can be a big asset to the company, not to make her look good in the press. Kendall asks where the hidden cameras are. Erica demands her to stop it and to start being serious about the job she's been hired to do. Kendall agrees to be civil, and then asks why she gave her access to the passwords to the company files. Erica says that Enchantment won't function without trust among her and her employees, including her. Kendall buys her excuse, and then asks when is the press conference to announce that Erica has hired her estranged daughter to work for her at Enchantment. Erica says that's a little premature. Kendall asks if she thinks that she's newsworthy. Ms. Kane urges her to prove herself first. Kendall asks if she even trusts her. Erica says that trust is a two-way street and that she needs to see if Kendall can earn hers. La Kane hands Kendall over a bunch of files and asks her to look over them and have a report with a four-month projection by week's end. She also wants to hear her ideas for the Winter Wonderland campaign. When Kendall asks about spare time, Erica says that in this business, there isn't any. Ms. Hart assures her mom that she can do this work in her sleep. Erica leaves for the hospital and expects a progress report when she returns. Before she leaves, she tells Kendall that she's free to use anything in the office except what's in the black filing cabinet, which is for her eyes only. A few seconds later, Bianca pops in and tells Kendall that she waited for their mother to leave before coming in. Kendall asks why she's there. Bianca says that she just had to pick up the rest of her mail. Bianca asks how working for Erica is going. Kendall tells her about Erica giving her full access to all of Enchantment's files and asks herself what's up with that. Bianca says that it's a test and asks her if she thinks she'll pass.

At Greenlee's loft, Ms. Smythe asks Leo to spill whatever it is he has to say to her. Leo says that while he was in jail, he realized how much Vanessa hurt their relationship. Greenlee says that what he's saying is no news flash. Leo continues by saying that how she hurt them was similar to being blindsided in a car wreck. Right after the accident, you feel okay with only a few minor bruises. But the morning after, everything hurts. He says that she must be hurting much more than he is. Greenlee tells him to get on with the point. Leo tells her that on everything he meant to her, he's sorry. Greenlee never blamed him for what his mother did. He knows that, but he never looked out for her during the turmoil and he let himself get sucked into her games. He admits that while she and Jake were fighting for their lives, he was dealing with his own self-pity and telling everyone around him to take a flying leap. He wasn't there when she needed him. Just then, someone knocks at the door. Greenlee answers it, and it's Simone. She's there to drop off a payment for the renter's insurance she requested for the apartment. Simone sees Leo and says that she can come back later when she's not busy. Leo says he was just leaving. He and Greenlee agree that there's nothing more for them to say. They both wish each other luck in the future. After Leo leaves, Simone says that they are still in love with each other and that one of them needs to say something to the other about it before they both keel over and die.

At the hospital, Mia hides after spotting a familiar face there. She recounts giving birth to her son and holding him in her arms. Mia tells herself that she did the right thing. She leaves from her hiding place and runs into a sulking Stuart. Mia asks what's wrong and if Liza's okay. Stuart doesn't know anything since he just came back to the hospital. She asks where Adam is. He tells her that his twin is in the chapel next door, but he's scared to go in after what happened with Marian earlier. Stuart begs her not to think anything bad about Marian before he tells her that she was drunk. He took her home and put her to bed. He isn't sure if he should stay with Adam or go back with Marian. Mia suggests that he go back to Marian and she'll stay with Adam. She promises to call them as soon as Liza gets out of surgery. Stuart thanks Mia for her offer and heads back home.

In the hospital chapel, Jake and Dr. Greenberg tell Adam that Liza pulled through surgery. Her condition is critical, but stable. Dr. Greenberg says that she is in no immediate danger. Adam asks if she will pull a full recovery and be back to the way she was before she got the tumor. Chandler sees the looks on the doctor's faces and demands to know what they aren't telling him. Jake explains that it was difficult trying to get the tumor out of Liza. However, they were able to get it all. Adam demands that the doctors tell him that Liza will be fine. Jake tells him that they just can't make that call. Mia walks into the room just as Dr. Greenberg tells Adam that Liza had a menigioma situated at her frontal lobe, which wasn't cancerous. However, it was a lengthy procedure and because of this, Liza could suffer some neurological damage. Adam asks how much damage. They won't know for sure until later. Adam asks why they're scaring him. Jake wants him to be prepared for the worst. Adam is in denial over the situation. Jake assures Chandler that Liza pulled through surgery okay. Adam feels that if she ends up being like a vegetable, that's not the case. Jake once again tells Adam that they won't be able to determine the total damage, if any, until after Liza regains consciousness. Adam asks if he would prescribe more prayers. Jake promises to get Adam once Liza wakes up. The doctors leave, and Adam asks Mia to find Stuart and Marian and tell them about Liza's condition. Mia tells him that they left since the situation was too much for Marian to handle. Adam wants to check up on Colby. Mia volunteers to do it for him. Adam asks her to tell Colby that he's spending the night with her mommy and that they both love her very much. Adam leaves the chapel, leaving an upset Mia alone.

Maggie and David try throwing playing cards into his medical bag for fun. David is impressed when Maggie's able to toss her card in the bag. Maggie says that card throwing isn't her best event-being alone is. David admits that he can relate. She asks if he's having second thoughts about letting her stay in the room. David says that the room is hers. Besides, he has a new set of living arrangements. Maggie comments that he's shacking up with his wife. She tells him that he was very generous to let her stay in his room. David says that they're family, so it was no problem. He wants her to plant some roots in Pine Valley. Maggie isn't sure it'll work since she has no job, no school plans, and only has Bianca in town as a friend. David asks what she wants to do in the future. Maggie admits that she wanted to go to med school. David's flabbergasted and offers to help her get into med school and pay all her finances. Maggie says that it was just a thought that she never took seriously. David begs her to enroll in PVU med school. Leo arrives and advises her to run out of PV as fast as she can.

While eating ice cream together, Greenlee tells Simone that she and Leo love each other and want each other. But they can't be together for more than five minutes without something or someone tearing them back apart. Simone says that it's hard being in the same zip code as your ex because you have to avoid running into each other in the same spots and every guy you see looks like him. Greenlee recounts seeing a guy at BJ's that looked just like Leo the other day. Greens wonders if the feeling ever ends. Simone isn't sure, since every guy she sees looks like Mateo. Greenlee refuses to be that pathetic and vows to get her life back together, starting with quitting at Enchantment. Simone asks why. Greens reveals that Erica demoted her and put Kendall in her place. She says that it makes no sense that Erica would replace someone like her who was good at her job with Kendall, who knows nothing about cosmetics. Simone says she must have her reasons for doing it. Greenlee says that La Kane's keeping the reasons to herself and she's not going to stick it out to see why. Simone offers to take her there and drive the getaway car after she leaves. Greenlee says that she can handle her boss on her own and tells her to stick around. Before Greenlee leaves, Simone tells her that she is anything but pathetic.

Mia arrives at the Chandler Mansion. Winifred finds her and asks her how Liza's surgery went. Mia tells her the surgery went fine. Winifred asks if Marian came with her. Mia tells her that Marian had to go home. Winifred says that Colby's been upset about Liza and needs someone to talk to. Just then, Colby wanders in and calls out for her Aunt Mia. Mia picks her up and promises that everything will be okay. Mia gets the child's mind off of her mother by playing Go Fish. After Colby wins, Mia tickles her niece. She then sings a funny song to Colby. The youngster asks Mia if it's bad to have fun while her mother's sick. Mia assures her that if Liza knew how much fun they were having, she'd be very happy. Colby says that Marian didn't look too happy earlier. Mia explains that her Mimi is worried about Liza, and that's why she's been so sad. Mia pinky swears to Colby that Liza will be okay and she will look out for her. Mia embraces her niece again. Colby soon falls asleep. Mia puts her on the couch and strokes her hair. She then grabs a toy of Colby's and lays next to her on the couch.

David, Maggie, and Leo dine in at the inn. Maggie says that the meal was outrageous. Leo says that they suck her in by feeding her and then sucking her into their crime family. Leo proposes a toast to their misfit, dysfunctional family. David would rather make a toast to Maggie's dream of going to med school. Leo's surprised that his cousin wants to go into medicine. Maggie assures him that its just something on her list of possible things to do. She wonders why he's being so gracious to her since he's got so much on his plate like a new wife. Leo is shocked again over this news and asks when it happened. David said it just happened and asks him to just be happy for him and Anna. Leo has no problem drinking to the newlyweds. David asks Maggie if she wants to be part of their dysfunctional family. Maggie says that you can't choose family. David says that you can choose whether or not you want to fit in with the family. After some thought, Maggie decides she does want to be part of the Hayward/Du Pres family. David makes another toast welcoming Maggie to the family.

Adam returns to the hospital chapel once it's empty. Stuart comes in soon afterward. Adam asks why he isn't back home. Stuart wanted to see how Liza's doing. Adam informs his brother that Liza came out of surgery all right, but there could be brain damage. Stuart is shocked over the news. Adam reveals how helpless he feels about the situation. Stuart suggests they pray together. Adam insists that God's not listening and wonders what you do when you can't do anything. Stuart doesn't know the answer. Stuart leaves Adam alone and Erica arrives later to visit in the chapel. Before they can talk, Jake interrupts and tells Adam that Liza is coming out of the anesthesia. She urges him to go with Jake and they'll catch up later. Upon arriving in Liza's room, Jake urges Adam to go easy on Liza and to not expect her to be totally responsive. Jake suggests he just be there for her and tell her that everything will be okay. "You mean lie," barks Adam as he goes into his wife's room. Adam sits down to see an unconscious Liza, who's head is bandaged from the surgery. He tells her that he's there and that everything will be alright. He holds her hand and hopes for her to open her eyes. Soon, Liza slowly opens her eyes. Adam comes closer to her as they stare at one another.

Erica runs into Opal after leaving the chapel. They discuss Liza's condition and how no one deserves to have a brain tumor. Opal is impressed that Erica is consoling Adam and seems to be like a busy little bee. Erica reveals that she and Chris are getting close again. The gal pals embrace as Opal says that it's about time. Opal then asks for the latest scoop on Kendall. Erica tells her that she's left her in the Garden of Eden with a very tempting apple. Opal isn't crazy about all of Erica's plotting against Kendall and Greenlee and thinks everything will backfire on her. Erica asks if she has any faith in her. Opal reminds her that she hasn't been batting a thousand lately with her plans. La Kane says that everyone messes up every now and then, but she's learned from them. Erica says that she can have everything-Chris and Bianca in her life and Kendall out of it.

Bianca helps Kendall when a number of calls come in for Enchantment. After the rush is over, Kendall thanks Bianca for not letting her tank in her first five minutes on the job. She asks how did she know so much about the company. Bianca tells her that she's Erica Kane's daughter. So is she, Kendall reminds her sister. Bianca says that she's had to live and breathe Erica Kane and her company for much of her life. Kendall admits that she needs to study the company some more. Kendall accidentally drops a pad by the forbidden file cabinet. Kendall wonders how she can keep from looking into the cabinet. Ms. Hart tells Bianca that she was right on the money when she said Erica was testing her, but she won't flunk. Bianca says that the only way to beat their mother is to walk away now and not take the bait. Bianca asks Kendall why she thinks Erica hired her. Kendall thinks Erica needs her. Bianca says that in reality, Ms. Kane is probably plotting something. Kendall will be ready. Bianca suggests that she bail out now before she risks everything and ends up leaving town with her tail between her legs. Kendall assures her little sister that Erica won't catch her with her pants down. Bianca gives up and tells her not to say she didn't warn her. Ms. Hart reminds her that she's the older sister. That may be so, but Bianca says that she's known Erica a lot longer and she almost never loses. After Bianca leaves, Kendall stares at the file cabinet. After some pondering, Kendall finally decides to find the key. She finds the key in a nearby box. As she's about to open the cabinet, she looks up to find Greenlee staring right over her wearing a smirk on her face.

Wednesday, April 10, 2002

Greenlee walked into Erica's office and found Kendall trying to open Erica's private filing cabinet. Greenlee cackled with glee and told her rival she was going to "turn her bony butt in" when Erica arrived. Greenlee demanded that Kendall try to explain her actions to Erica, but before Kendall could say two words Greenlee was blabbing all to Erica. Erica said she was devastated at both of them. She said it was a test for Greenlee and now she knows Greenlee is a snitch and Erica said she can't stand a tattle tale. Kendall was stunned as Erica told her she must stay one step ahead of her enemies. Erica went on to say it had been a test for Kendall as well, to see how ambitious she is. She said Kendall would've passed if Greenlee hadn't stopped her. Erica told them both that she considers ambition an asset. Kendall asked if she was fired and was told not this time. Erica advised Greenlee and Kendall to learn from their mistakes. As she reviewed Kendall's work Erica complimented Kendall on her accomplishments. Greenlee became furious and threatened to share confidential information if Erica didn't reconsider her position immediately. Kendall wondered what was going on and Erica said it was just a product Greenlee was working on. She told Kendall to go talk to Val for a few minutes so she could speak to Greenlee. After Kendall left Erica and Greenlee argued about Greenlee's job. She demanded to know Erica's plan and threatened to spill the beans to Kendall. Greenlee also demanded that Erica stop using her but Erica said she was actually deeply committed to furthering Greenlee's career at Enchantment. Erica said Kendall was incompetent and that she craves approval. Once she screws up royally at Enchantment she'll be publicly humiliated and will crawl back under her rock. Greenlee said that was all nice but it wasn't worth her abject humiliation. She demanded a promotion to Vice President or she'd tell Kendall everything. Erica agreed but said Greenlee had to help her deal with Kendall. Greenlee told her boss to sit back and enjoy the show. Kendall returned and Greenlee made nice to her, saying she had been unprofessional in her treatment of Kendall. Greenlee also said Erica would destroy her career if she didn't make this work with Kendall. Kendall scoffed at her and told Greenlee she was on probation and then sent her for a latte, much to Greenlee's disgust. When Greenlee returned with the drink, the three women attempted to work together. Kendall thought to herself "Smile now Erica, soon I'll have everything I want!." Erica thought "Kendall, enjoy your 15 minutes now because soon you'll be in Paris while Bianca, Chris and I start our new lives together!." Greenlee was thinking "Erica, you're hiding something and I'm going to find out what!." They all looked at each other suspiciously but kept pretending to work. As Greenlee and Kendall looked over some files Erica slipped a letter from Revlon into a briefcase.

Sitting in her hospital bed Vanessa talked to herself while trying to eat her dinner. Proteus's voice boomed into the room, insinuating that the food had been tampered with. Vanessa screamed for the guard and he and Leo rushed into the room. She claimed the food was poisoned and Leo sent the guard away, explaining it was just her illness talking. Vanessa told Leo she didn't want to die and he helped her back to bed. Leo told his mother that he wants to get her out of the hospital and Pine Valley. He proposed that they escape together and Vanessa looked like she believed him. But then she slipped into the Rosie Wells persona. Leo told her he was arrested for trying to help her, that he destroyed evidence for her. "Rosie" kept on talking about a part in a movie while Leo told her to wrap this insanity thing up. "The only thing between us and prison are a couple of hack lawyers" Leo told her. He asked if she trusted him and she just twirled her hair with her fingers and smiled at him. Rosie said escape scenes were difficult to play and that she had to think about her career. Leo said he was traveling solo then and apologized for pointing a gun on her at the boathouse. He reminded her of something she'd told him once, that no matter where they were they'd always look at the same moon and stars and that they could always be truthful with each other. Leo leaned over Vanessa and said "Good luck Mother" and kissed her goodbye. Vanessa grabbed him and said she was with him "Let's do break out! I have plenty of money stashed away!." She told him if he did as she said they'd be long gone by morning. Leo laughed at her, saying she'd been Vanessa all this time. She said Rosie was the best character she'd ever played; she could keep the doctors going for a long time. Vanessa confessed that her only problem has been Mateo, that he wants her dead. They began to make plans for later and Leo said he'd go get her some street clothes. Vanessa grabbed him by the collar and hissed "Don't double cross me this time!." Leo said he wouldn't and he left the room. Trey caught up to him and Leo showed him a small video camera he'd stashed in his bag. Leo told his mother's lawyer that he had a confession on tape that she'd been pretending all this time to be insane. Leo and Trey walked away as Mateo stepped from around the corner, having heard their discussion. Leo went to Jack (who was at the hospital) and gave him the tape. Jack said he couldn't cut him a deal on his legal problems and Leo said he didn't expect one, that he just wanted Vanessa stopped. Jack told Leo he was a good kid and left with the tape.

Adam talked to Liza as she lie in her hospital bed. He told her not to be frightened, that the tumor was benign and that she would be fine. Liza opened her eyes, looked very confused and asked "Who are you?." Adam was devastated. He explained who he was and Liza turned away from him and began to whimper. Jake came in and introduced himself and then asked Adam to leave while he checked Liza. Adam went into the hallway and joined Stuart. Adam told him that Liza was afraid of him and can barely mumble. Stuart tried to comfort his brother and Adam said he wanted Liza back the way she was. Stuart said even if she isn't the same, she's still Liza and he'll love her anyway but Adam wasn't so sure. Stuart gave him a pep talk, and reminded him about how much he helped Stuart when they were little. Stuart said part of his brain was AWOL but that because of Adam's love, his heart was whole. Stuart said they'd all love Liza and make her feel whole again too.

Mat and Hayley ran into Trey at the hospital and Mateo grabbed Trey. He threatened Trey's career if he is able to get Vanessa free. He reminded the attorney that no one in this town wants Vanessa to get off. Trey reminded Mateo that even Vanessa has the right to counsel. Hayley tried to get Mat to lay off but he went on to say that Vanessa was just playing with the doctors. Trey left and Mateo said to Hayley "As long as she's alive she's dangerous." Hayley was worried about what Mat was going to do and he said he was playing by Vanessa's rules now. They argued a bit and Mat said he just couldn't leave Vanessa to the justice system. Hayley saw Adam and went to him while Stuart joined Mateo and told him Liza may be permanently impaired. Edmund and Brooke arrived and Brooke took Adam to get some coffee. Edmund hugged Hayley as Mateo took off without a word. She looked around for him and said he's up to something that doesn't include her.

Adam returned to Liza's room and Jake let Mia in. Liza didn't recognize her so Jake told her it was her sister. Mia began talking to Liza and she seemed to listen to her. Mia told her how much everyone loves her and that there were tons of flowers and cards waiting for her at home. She told her sister that she just couldn't believe she was connected to someone so lovely, so strong, so one of a kind. "This world needs you, I need you, Colby needs you," Mia said. Liza tried to talk but only produced noises. Adam left the room and Brooke joined him. He told her Liza was making sounds but not making any sense. Brooke told him to just be there for his wife and Adam cried out "It's not fair!." Brooke told him no, it wasn't fair, it was life. Mia came out of Liza's room and told Stuart she had an idea to help Liza and she'd be right back.

Brooke and Hayley got together and talked about a party for Edmund, until he returned to Brooke's side. He told Hayley he couldn't find Mateo anywhere. He asked if she'd like to join them for dinner and Hayley refused his offer, saying she wanted to stay there with Adam. After they left Hayley looked around and wondered where her husband was.

Adam went back into Liza's room and talked to her some more. Mia returned and brought a few things to show Liza. She handed her a picture Colby had made for her mother, and Ludwig, a stuffed bear Colby sent to sleep with Liza. Then Mia gave Liza a picture of her and Colby together. Liza looked at the picture and recognized the face and said "Colby!" very plainly. Adam was so happy and he said yes, that's our little girl!.

In Vanessa's dark room she waited for Leo and wondered out loud where he was. She heard a noise and called out to Leo. When she got no response she said "Mateo?." Still no response. Then the door opened slightly and a gloved hand reached in, holding a syringe.

Hayley sat in the lobby waiting for Mateo to return. When he finally showed up she asked him "Do I even want to know where you've been?." Mateo said he'd been walking around, thinking. He said Hayley and Lorenzo are his priority and that nothing else matters. They shared a hug but Mat looked over Hayley's shoulder into the distance like he was thinking something completely different.

Leo returned to his mother's room. He found the guard outside her door sound asleep. He woke the man up and sent him for coffee. Then Leo entered Vanessa's room. She was waiting for him behind the door and banged him with it when he walked in. Then she dragged him to the bed, with a cord around his neck. She hissed at him "No more exceptions for family!"

Thursday, April 11, 2002

Tad comes to the hospital to visit Liza, but Adam stands in his way. He orders Tad to stay away from the entire Chandler family. Next, Adam tells Tad, "You're fired!" Adam informs Tad that he is back as the head of Chandler Enterprises. He had to take charge because of all of Liza's bad business decisions. Adam blames Tad for not picking up on Liza's erratic behavior while Tad blames Adam for the same thing. Jamie interrupts Adam and Tad's argument to announce that Aunt Phoebe is forcing him to attend Brooke and Edmund's engagement party instead of going to a baseball game.

Brooke leads a blindfolded Edmund through a door. She whisks off the blindfold and he finds himself in a romantic candle-lit room in a country inn. A while later, they are sitting on the bed feeding each other chocolate covered strawberries. The mood is spoiled by a knock at the door. Tad barges in to have a family meeting. He is angry that Brooke scheduled the party for the same night he and Jamie were to attend a big game. Tad and Edmund almost come to blows until Tad agrees to leave and talk about it when they get back. Brooke picks up that there is something more going on with Tad than just a baseball game, but Edmund thinks Tad is acting just like Adam.

David arrives at the police station with a huge bouquet of flowers for Anna. He expects her to be happy to see him, but instead, Anna is cold. She tells David that the pipes that burst in the evidence room had been tampered with. The water conveniently destroyed all the evidence against him. Anna waits for David to deny any involvement, but he refuses. Finally, he tells her he didn't do it and he doesn't know who did.

After David leaves, Anna takes a look at the wrench used to loosen the pipes. She manages to find two fingerprints. Before she can check them against David's police file, Derek comes by to see the new police chief. Derek can't understand how Anna beat him out for the job. He tells her he will support her as long as she does the job right. Anna assures Derek that he is the best detective on the squad and tells him she will be able to learn a lot from him. Derek wants to learn from Anna as well. He wants to learn how to better manipulate station politics to get a promotion.

When Anna returns to her desk, she once again tries to compare the fingerprints. To her dismay, the ones on the wrench match David's. Jackson storms in to ask Anna if she's making any progress. Jack vows to get to the truth even if he has to take both Anna and David down.

A crazed Vanessa strangles Leo. He manages to break away as Jack and Trey come rushing in. Orderlies restrain Vanessa to the hospital bed as she screams at Leo that he will pay. Suddenly, Vanessa stops her tirade and stares at the wall next to the door as if she sees someone standing there. Vanessa begins to laugh maniacally then begins talking to her dead husband Charles. David comes in to hear his mother ranting and raving about how his father was a coward, weak and inept. This makes David furious. He can't bear to hear Vanessa talk about his father that way.

To Jake's surprise, he finds himself feeling sorry for David. In the hospital corridor, Jake discusses Vanessa's condition with David. Jake believes the guard posted outside Vanessa's room was drugged. He is running tests to find out. David wonders if maybe Vanessa was drugged as well. That would explain her insane behavior. David rushes to Vanessa's room for a blood sample, but both Vanessa and the guard are gone.
