Dominique Thorne is an American actress, born on November 5, 1997, in New York, United States. Thorne developed an interest in acting from a young age and attended the Professional Performing Arts School in Manhattan. In 2015, she was honored as a U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts and a YoungArts Winner in Spoken Theater. She later attended Cornell University and graduated in 2019 with a degree in Human Development and a minor in Inequality Studies.


She made her film debut in 2018 with If Beale Street Could Talk, where he played the role of Shelia Hunt. In 2022, she joined the Marvel Universe in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever as Riri Williams. She gained international popularity and praise for her work in the film. Over the years, Thorne’s family played an important role in shaping her acting career. Nerissa Guy and Navie Guy are Dominique Thorne’s parents. They emigrated from Trinidad and Tobago to the United States. Her mother, Nerissa, is from Carapichaima, while her father, Navie, is from Mayaro. The couple moved to New York City and raised Dominique and her siblings there. She has two younger brothers, Ky-Mani and Caleb. In 2024, she was honored with the Diaspora Award in Trinidad, and in her acceptance speech, she spoke about her heritage.


She said, “I am honored and humbled to accept the diaspora award. My parents were born in Trinidad; my Caribbean heritage is near and dear to me. Growing up in a Trinidadian household immersed me in a culture, rich traditions, resilience, and a strong sense of community.” In an interview with Sunday Newsday, she talked about her mother and said, “My mom was very big on wherever she could find the best education, that’s where I would go to. My mom would get reviews during parent-teacher conferences like, ‘Oh, yes. She’s such a wonderful child. She’d even help me distribute things.’ And my mom was like, ‘Dais what I sending you to school for?’”


In the same interview, she shared how she told her family she'd be starring in Marvel’s Ironheart. She said, “She was like ‘You lie! Just hurry up and tell me what you have to tell me, please.’ And I said, ‘I’m serious!’ And then she kinda stopped and let it sink in and started to cry a little bit. My dad is the silent type. He nodded a couple of times and said congrats, said wow a couple of times but yeah, they're definitely excited.” She added, “My little brother is trying to convince me to take him with me when I have to fight crime.”

Thorne has a few projects lined up for 2025. She is set to reprise her role as Riri Williams in Marvel's upcoming Disney+ show Ironheart, which comes out on June 24, 2025. She will also voice Riri Williams/Ironheart in Marvel’s upcoming animated show Marvel Zombies, which will release on Disney+ on October 3, 2025.
