Born sometime between 2014 and 2018, Abby is the daughter of Fireflies' head surgeon, Jerry Anderson, who was killed by Joel Miller while rescuing Ellie. Her father brought her to live in Salt Lake City, where he was working on developing a vaccine to prevent the Cordyceps brain infection, and raised her as a member of the Fireflies during the apocalypse.

Abby, a Washington Liberation Front (WLF) soldier, intends to kill Joel Miller to exact revenge for the death of her father. Later, when she becomes friends with two former members of the Seraphites, a religious sect that the WLF is at war with, her alliances become unstable. Ellie and Abby are the game's two primary playable characters.

Abby is a young woman who is emotionally torn but has a tough shell. Abby cut ties with her friends, such as Owen and Mel, after her father passed away and the Fireflies disbanded to fulfill her ambition of killing Joel. To do so, she became a blunt, stoic soldier. She became a leader of the WLF and had a commanding presence. I also resulted in her becoming more serious, rarely smiling, and more direct and tough.
