Austin’s father in Ginny and Georgia is Georgia’s ex-boyfriend Gil Timmons. The two met during a turbulent time in Georgia’s life, and met while she was living in Austin, Texas, with Ginny. Before their first date, Georgia didn’t tell Gil that she had a daughter, but he did find out and didn’t mind. The two eventually began a relationship, and Georgia started falling in love, with Gil buying her expensive gifts.

It was then that Gil revealed that he makes his money by embezzling funds at the company he works for, which stuns Georgia. Following that, things quickly take an even darker turn as Austin begins being physically abusive towards Georgia, although she hides it well from Ginny. She eventually decides to run away, but on the same day, finds out that she’s pregnant with Gil’s child. However, even once Austin is born, Gil’s abuse towards Georgia doesn’t stop, and she continues to hide it from her children.

At some point during this period, Georgia decides to frame Gil and write herself a check for 100,000 dollars, a figure that the company will immediately take notice of. Gil figures things out and is later arrested and then jailed for fraud and embezzlement. During that time, Georgia cuts ties with Gil, shifts towns, and even keeps him out of Austin’s life, even forging letters to make it seem like Gil cared about his son. However, Gil eventually got out of jail, and reappeared in their brand new town, not because he wanted a relationship with his son but because he wanted power over Georgia.

Gil Timmons is portrayed by Aaron Ashmore, a Canadian actor who is the identical twin brother of actor Shawn Ashmore. Born October 7, 1979, Ashmore made his debut as an actor in 1991 when he appeared in the film Married to It. However, both he and his twin brother have been acting since they were children, appearing in a catalogue of commercials over the years. Ashmore then continued acting on the small screen, earning several television roles over the next few years, including more than a dozen television films by 2004.

That eventually led to his first recurring role as he portrayed Troy Vandegraff in the television series Veronica Mars from 2004 to 2006.
