: A Brief Biography

At A Glance

As Clint Buchanan, Clint Ritchie has seen his share of headline-grabbing stories, but it was in real life that Clint Ritchie had his most dramatic storyline played out. While working on his Northern California ranch in March, 1993, Clint was involved in a terrible tractor accident that left him at death's door. After months of recovery, Clint returned to One Life to Live and the town of Llanview, Pennsylvania, his fictional home for over a decade.

A self-described "North Dakota plowboy," Clint Ritchie grew up on a farm in Grafton, North Dakota. He knew he wanted to be an actor since he was seven years old, but was never involved in any school plays or other productions as a youngster because he was "always too shy to do anything in school."

At 16, Clint left home and headed for northern California, where he held a succession of jobs. Eventually he went to Hollywood, where he began taking acting lessons. He arrived in New York in the fall of 1979 to join the cast of One Life to Live. Seventeen years later, Clint remains a fan favorite on the daytime drama.

Clint made his television acting debut as a cavalry lieutenant on horseback in the pilot of the series, Wild Wild West. His other television credits include roles in three of the segments of The Centennial miniseries, an episode of Dallas and the children's program, Thunder. In one of his first, though lesser-known roles, Ritchie appeared in the Batman television series, playing one of the Joker's clobbered henchman, Boff.

His appearances as the principal character, McMurphy, in a stage production of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest led to a contract at 20th Century-Fox Studios. He has appeared in several movies, including Patton, A Force of One, The St. Valentine's Day Massacre and Bandolero!

Ritchie died January 31, 2009.
