She started her career with guest appearances on shows like 90210 (2010), NCIS (2011), and The Middle (2011-2012).

Howey made her film debut with ETXR in 2014. In the same year, she worked in the film Horrible Bosses 2, where she played Candy. She gained popularity with roles in The Exorcist (2016), The Passage (2019), and Batwoman (2019–2020).
