Katie must have magical DNA. She saved her sister Margo with a liver transplant a few years ago, and now she's going to save Johnny with a bone marrow transplant. Craig, the way things are going, you may want to make nice with your little sis, pronto.
January 12, 2009
Was Dusty always this much of a bully? It's getting harder and harder to like him, when he stomps around town yelling at everyone, from Barbara to Katie. Simmer down, Dusty!
January 19, 2009
It was really about time that Luke and Noah hit the sheets. There has been a lot of talk about whether this event would ever happen, but there wasn't any fanfare to set it up; this was just a natural progression of the story.
January 26, 2009
When will the veterans be integrated into stories, or given stories of their own? This is a multi-generational show; when was the last time Casey had a conversation with Nancy? When was the last time we saw Tom talking to his mother, Lisa?
February 2, 2009
Katie and Brad are trying to have a baby. Poor Katie, she's wanted kids for years now, but she just can't seem to keep a husband around long enough to fertilize her stubborn eggs.
February 9, 2009
Henry might be the only guy in Oakdale who isn't interested in being a daddy. At least he's honest about his feelings; he's not ready for that level of responsibility. He's barely on board for a dog!
February 16, 2009
Carly, getting drunk in the middle of the day before your kids come home from school...well, let's just say Jack and the courts probably wouldn't approve.
February 23, 2009
It was just a year or so ago that Brad would have done anything to get Katie pregnant, but now he is against it, just like his friend Henry.
March 2, 2009
Frankly, if anyone in Oakdale has a reason to drink, it's Margo. The woman has raised two troubled sons, and has arrested her family members more than any other citizens in Oakdale.
March 9, 2009
Janet was right when she told Jack last week that Parker needs discipline. Parker thinks that he can do whatever he wants to do, without paying the price for his actions.
March 16, 2009
Note to Jack: when your child misbehaves, you don't send him to boarding school. Obviously, Parker is in need of something, but isolating him from everyone he loves is only going to make the situation worse. Hal is rolling over in his grave right now.
March 23, 2009
Last week, Parker and Liberty got married, because Parker wanted his trust fund, and he wanted to become emancipated. This storyline shows that Parker is a real teenager who thinks that he knows exactly what he is doing.
March 30, 2009
Ever since Brad realized that he had a daughter, he's been a very hands-on father, so where is Brad in this whole Parker/Liberty drama? Is it shoddy writing, or are we to assume that Brad is letting Janet handle the marriage mayhem?
April 6, 2009
Luke continues to be vocal about his likes and dislikes; however, he does have ample reason not to trust his biological father, Damian. Damian never comes to town unless there is something up his sleeve, and it usually involves money.
April 13, 2009
Parker's lost pretty much everything in his life that he's ever cared about at one time or another, including Jack, his mom, and his dad. It's no wonder that he's holding on with a strangling grip to Liberty.
April 20, 2009
At times, Luke appears to be a strong person on his own, but then there are times when he is portrayed as a weakling who can't function unless Noah is at his side.
April 27, 2009
Once again, Damian and his family name are messing things up for Luke, Lily, and Holden. That Grimaldi money sure is bad luck. Remember the last time that the Grimaldi family was squabbling?
May 4, 2009
That poor kid is like a ping-pong ball, being shuffled back and forth between Craig and Dusty. How will he turn out as a teenager or young adult? There is no real stability in his life; he lives in a hotel, and doesn't interact with other kids.
May 11, 2009
Grab the martini shaker and some olives, because it looks like Henry is going to be a baby daddy.
May 18, 2009
Jack has become so heavy handed in the way that he approaches Carly and Parker; what is his true motivation? Will he be the one to run to Carly's rescue when she hits bottom because of her drinking?
May 25, 2009
Last week, Carly got drunk and got behind the wheel. She was driving drunk, and, for once, the Oakdale Police Department caught someone who was breaking the law. Crazy, right?
June 1, 2009
Carly as an alcoholic is riveting to watch, as she craves the alcohol and is making deals with her teenage son to help keep her secret. Has she learned nothing about constantly keeping secrets and making more and more mistakes in judgment?
June 8, 2009
Adam's death last week gave Margo and Tom some excellent drama to play, which we haven't seen in a long time, but what a travesty Adam's funeral turned out to be. The fact that Adam's grandparents weren't in attendance was unacceptable.
June 15, 2009
Apparently, Emily is a woman who has been so embroiled in business that she has suddenly decided that she wants to have a baby. Didn't we just see this with Katie?
June 22, 2009
Dusty sometimes refuses to take no for an answer, but he seems to be seeing Bonnie in a different light these days. Hopefully, he'll finally let Meg go, and abandon the bad guy routine; it was starting to get old and redundant.
June 29, 2009
Someone grab the champagne, and let's celebrate! It looks like Henry is finally getting the attention that he deserves, after all these years.
July 6, 2009
Congratulations to Luke and Noah, who are still going strong as a couple after all these months. How long will it be before one of these guys is tempted by another guy, though? It is summer, the season of love triangles.
July 13, 2009
Will Carly and Craig ever get married? Each time that they try to walk down the aisle, something happens to stop them. Does she really want to marry Craig, or does she just want to forget about Jack, and the fact that he is now with Janet?
July 20, 2009
Parker's despair over his mother's alcoholism was written all over his face and laced in every syllable he spoke, and his eyes were fearful and tortured as he pleaded with his mother to get help.
July 27, 2009
Kim has always been an astute, strong woman who could see miles away when she was being duped; why wasn't she able to see that Henry was Geneva for all these weeks?
August 3, 2009
Jack is taking a lot of heat from his kids, Janet, and everyone else for not wanting to hire Teri to be the nanny, but who can blame him for not wanting to leave his kids with someone he doesn't know?
August 10, 2009
It's great to see Barbara back in the mix again as a meddling mother, fighting with Emily and going around town creating havoc.
August 17, 2009
Sure, Holden's truck crashed down a ravine last week, and subsequently exploded into a fireball, but it takes a lot to kill a Snyder. Just ask Holden or Jack, who've both danced with death before and always came out on top.
August 24, 2009
Last week, Liberty saw Parker hugging some unknown girl, and she decided that the best thing to do was to hop in bed with some unknown boy...without protection. Later, Liberty learned that the unknown girl was Parker's cousin, who had just lost her father. Oops!
August 31, 2009
Thankfully, Bob's problems are because of a tumor, and not senility. In Oakdale, a tumor can be easily removed. Just ask Barbara. The doctors won't even shave your head.
September 7, 2009
Everyone seems to be using Holden's death to explain their behavior; Luke is jealous of the time that Noah is spending with Mason, so he attacks Noah for not being at Holden's funeral, even though Luke told Noah that it was okay to leave.
September 14, 2009
James Stenbeck's funeral last week was a hoot. Barbara was in rare form, and she has definitely met her match in Audrey. It is so good to see Barbara front and center, letting folks have it at every turn.
September 21, 2009
Parker is acting remarkably mature. It would have been easy for him to lose it after he found out that Liberty was stepping out, considering his almost fanatical jealousy a few months ago, but he has been nothing but supportive of her.
September 28, 2009
Holden has had plenty of chances to escape, but he has never capitalized on any of them. Things look like they are only going to get worse for him, but at least he is no longer chained to a bed.
October 5, 2009
Why do the writers feel that the best way to use Henry is to put him in crazy situations that are supposed to be funny? Henry has been turned into a buffoon, thanks to his wacky mother.
October 12, 2009
Last week, Barbara finally got some. Screen time, that is. The fact that she was mattress-thrashing with Henry, though, made the situation resemble a traffic accident; you couldn't look away, but you really wanted to.
October 19, 2009
Parker has his hands in so much right now. He is taking care of Liberty by being her confidante and friend, he is holding Rosanna and Craig accountable for cheating while his mother is away, and he's basically being more of a man than the actual men in Oakdale.
October 26, 2009
Let's hope that Brad's shooting was done for some storyline reason to foster fallout for years to come, and that it wasn't just a nonsense killing, because he was a very valuable character.
November 2, 2009
Jack is trying to keep it together and be strong, but you can see his pain and heartbreak over Brad's shooting. It doesn't help that his wife, the biggest mouth in Oakdale, keeps talking about the fact that he was drinking before the shooting.
November 9, 2009
Katie is one brave woman. Sure, she took on a gangster, gave birth by herself in a dirty warehouse, and survived the death of her husband, but more importantly, she's been walking around Oakdale for days with no makeup. Now that's brave!
November 16, 2009
The time that Jack and Carly have spent away from each other has been good, and we can see that now seems to be the time to put them back together.
November 23, 2009
Jack is trying to right a wrong, and we all know that he can't. Killing his brother was a tragic accident that he will have to live with, but his need to do something to help Katie makes perfect sense.
November 30, 2009
The rebellious Parker has left the building, and he's been replaced by a young man who cares about the well-being of others, like Liberty and his parents.
December 7, 2009
Lock up your daughters, Oakdale citizens. Simon is back in town. Of course, he has his hands full at the moment, dealing with an irate ghost, consoling a grieving ex-wife, and dodging the cops.
December 14, 2009
Last week, Brad took over Henry's body, so that he could see Katie. It was hilarious to watch as he tried to pretend that he was Henry, though Brad was the one who was calling the shots.

Part one of a two-part look back at the events of the past year in Oakdale. This week, our columnist Jennifer discusses the best and the worst that As the World Turns had to offer in 2009.
